Fremont School District 79 is seeking a part-time (.5) Benefits Specialist.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations
WORK SCHEDULE: 12 months, 4 hours per day
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma
Associate's Degree preferred
2 or more years of benefit administration experience is preferred
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration, coordination, and communication of employee benefit programs for the District. This position ensures accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations while coordinating and supporting health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement systems (TRS/IMRF), annuity accounts, and other benefit offerings for Fremont School District 79. The Benefits Specialist maintains accurate records and serves as a primary contact for benefit-related inquiries for staff and insurance carriers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life, and voluntary benefits.
Facilitates new employee benefit orientation and assists employees with enrollment and benefit questions.
Coordinates annual open enrollment, including preparation of materials, processing of forms, and communication with staff.
Process enrollments, changes, and terminations of benefits in accordance with plan provisions and District policies and procedures.
Process enrollments, changes, and terminations in the insurance carrier website portals and financial software.
Manages tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) payments and related payroll deductions.
Maintains the District's insurance census and benefit-related employee records.
Administers COBRA continuation coverage in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Reconciles monthly vendor invoices to employee benefit eligibility and deductions, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
Supports the district's wellness program by coordinating the wellness clinic, serving on the wellness committee, and assisting with staff wellness initiatives and activities.
Provides administrative support for TRS Retirement Plans and Supplemental Savings Plan (SSP) under TRS.
Provides administrative support for IMRF Retirement Plans.
Administers workers' compensation reporting, including OSHA logs, 411 materials, and related documentation.
Completes Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting in compliance with federal requirements.
Serves as a member of the District Insurance Committee.
Prepares, maintains, and files all employee benefit documentation.
Communicates and updates benefit information on various platforms for district staff, and provides support to candidates with benefit-related questions.
Responds to all employee inquiries regarding benefits with accuracy, professionalism, and a customer-focused approach in a timely manner.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality while demonstrating strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to build positive relationships with administrators, staff, and vendors.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations or Superintendent of Schools.
SALARY INFORMATION:
Starting at $26.00/hour and will be adjusted commensurate with experience
