By joining our Office of Project Development as a TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER SPECIALIST in Franklin County, you'll have the opportunity to support the development and management of highway construction and rehabilitation projects during the PS&E process and serve a critical role in assisting in the management of the development of consultant-prepared plans and project notes that will be utilized in plans and proposals for contractor bid lettings.
Summary of Responsibilities: * Review consultant-developed roadway and structural design plans, project notes, and documentation to use in PS&E packages.
* Assist in the management of the development of project proposal documents and submittals required for KYTC's highway contractor bid lettings.
* Apply KYTC design standards, specifications, and project development guidelines during proposal and plan preparation.
* Manage and maintain digital records and documentation using Cabinet data management systems.
* Learn and utilize KYTC-approved engineering software tools.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period.
Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
