Description

Position OverviewDWC Mechanical is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of safety across our commercial HVAC construction projects. The ideal candidate will ensure that all employees, subcontractors, and job sites adhere to the highest safety standards while complying with OSHA and industry regulations. This role plays a key part in maintaining our reputation for quality work and a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

Safety Reporting and Data Management

Conduct and maintain accurate records of regular site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA 1926).

Lead investigations of safety incidents, accidents, and near-misses, including documentation and follow-up on corrective actions.

Ensure the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection systems, confined space protocols, and lockout/tagout procedures relevant to HVAC systems.

Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to plan safe work practices and anticipate job-specific risks (e.g., rooftop work, crane lifts, mechanical equipment installation).

Maintain and submit all required safety reports and documentation, including incident logs, inspection reports, and training records.

Serve as the point of contact for OSHA inspections or other regulatory audits.

Lead investigations into workplace injuries, filing paperwork/claims with workers compensation.

Coordinate emergency response procedures and serve as a point of contact during safety-related emergencies or incidents.

Work with Human Resources to ensure injured employees are compensated appropriately.

Safety Training and Management:

Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs tailored to commercial HVAC construction environments.

Provide onboarding safety orientation for new hires and coordinate ongoing safety training, toolbox talks, and job-specific hazard training for field personnel.

Assign and oversee progress of employees on the Interplay training platform.

Host in-person training sessions on approved topics.

Keep up to date with current safety laws, best practices, and HVAC-related safety innovations to proactively improve DWC Mechanical's safety program.

Maintain updated curriculum and training records.

Fleet Management Administrator

Meet with President of DWC and department heads to assess vehicle needs.

Oversee the acquisition/disposition of vehicles.

Manage fleet-related contracts, insurance policies, and vendor relationships.

Ensure all maintenance, repairs and recalls are completed on time.

Analyze fleet expenses and usage (fuel, maintenance, miles, etc.) and work to maximize efficiency.

Maintain accurate records of all company vehicles, including registrations, insurance, service history and mileage logs.

Ensure compliance with transport regulations, licensing requirements, and health & safety standards.

Support the implementation of fleet management systems, telematics, and tracking tools.

Review individual driver reports and act when necessary.

Respond to driver inquiries, accidents, and breakdowns, ensuring timely resolution.

Insurance Meetings

Represent the company at all required insurance meetings.

Travel via plane or vehicle to destination insurance meetings.

Represent DWC Mechanical.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health, or a related field (preferred).

Minimum 5 years of safety management experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction.

Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and safety best practices specific to HVAC installation (e.g., working at heights, electrical safety, confined spaces).

Safety certifications such as OSHA 30, CHST, CSP, or equivalent is highly preferred.
