Description:

A full-time Associate Scientist position is available immediately in the company’s office in Cambridge, Massachusetts and reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, the Associate Scientist will have the following specific job responsibilities:

1) Work in the exploratory biology team and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance the company’s drug discovery pipeline;

2) Utilize molecular biology knowledge to conduct applied research aimed at improvements in areas such as disease testing, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology;

3) Develop and perform genomic, protein, and cell-based target validation assays to confirm discoveries and determine mechanisms of action;

4) Conduct cell-based screenings of potential targets using various molecular biology techniques in selected disease indications;

5) Participate in the development of best antibody, small molecule, and cell therapy approaches by building required biological assays, systems, and cell lines;

6) Design, perform, interpret, and present data from in vitro and ex vivo experiments, including but not limited to flow cytometry and sorting, enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), tumor cell killing, NK cell-based killing assay, immune cell isolation from whole blood or tissues, reporter assays, transcription assays (i.e., quantitative RT-PCR), transfection and cloning of stable cell line, and Western blot;

7) Compile, analyze, and maintain experimental and lab records to prepare reports and presentations, and adjust experimental designs as necessary based on analytical results;

8) Monitor or operate specialized equipment, such as gas chromatographs and high-pressure liquid chromatographs, electrophoresis units, thermocyclers, fluorescence-activated cell sorters, and phosphorimagers;

9) Confer with vendors to evaluate new equipment or reagents or to discuss the customization of product lines to meet user requirements; and

10) Evaluate new supplies and equipment to ensure operability in specific laboratory settings.

A minimum of two (2) years of employment or internship experience in the biotechnology or biomedical research industry.

Work Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Required employment or internship experience must include the following:

1) A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 to engineer cell lines;

2) A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in operating specialized equipment, such as magnetic-activated cell sorters to sort and isolate specific immune cell types from primary cells;

3) A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in performing molecular biology techniques, including quantitative polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and multi-color flow cytometry;

4) A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in writing and presenting research reports for project and lab meetings;

5) A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in performing lab support duties, including equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and lab organization;

6) A minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience in developing cell therapy approaches, and designing in vitro and ex vivo experiments;

7) A minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience in performing and analyzing T cell activation, proliferation, cytotoxicity, and mixed lymphocyte reaction assays;

8) A minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience in performing and analyzing cell to cell binding assays to confirm the interaction of immune checkpoint receptors, and in profiling immune cells by multi-color flow cytometry;

9) A minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience in operating imaging-based equipment, including fluorescence microscopy and incucyte.

Master’s Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.

Required Knowledge must include the following:

1) Master’s Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field level of knowledge in Molecular Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics and Development, and Advanced Cell Biology; and

2) Master’s Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field level of knowledge in the Business of Biotechnology.
