The University Public Records Office, located in the Office of University Compliance and Integrity, manages requests to the University under the Ohio Public Records Act by identifying, tracking, and properly directing public records requests made to the University, performing legal review and redaction of responsive materials, overseeing the release of records, and ensuring that all requests are appropriately and timely answered. The Public Records Office facilitates the university's compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including those governing public access, confidentiality, and privacy.

The Public Records Compliance Specialist provides support to the Director of Public Records in fulfilling the Office's responsibilities for managing public records requests university-wide in a manner that both complies with regulatory requirements and fosters transparency and public access. Under the supervision of the Director, this position develops, maintains and oversees electronic tracking of and response to routine records requests by the Public Records Office and by designated public records team members across the University; drafts correspondence; assists in the development of university staff training; responds to general inquiries from and assists in providing guidance to campus clients regarding public records; escalates requests/inquires as needed; interacts professionally with clients and the public, including media, to fulfill duties of the Public Records Office. The position monitors media developments relevant to functions of the Public Records Office and the Office of University Compliance and Integrity.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Ability to professionally interact with all levels of customers inside and outside the university; proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products, and on-line research tools; excellent and effective written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with public records laws or legal document review, or legal discovery; 0-2 years' experience in a public/government legal setting or private law office; government and/or public contract experience; experience interacting with public and private constituencies; skilled in use of Adobe products (Acrobat, Premiere); Paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program or equivalent paralegal experience.

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $24.76 to $32.33 per hour.
