Overview The post holder will oversee the delivery of the ST1 and 2 year Core Paediatrics training Programme in NHSE England North West.

It will cover the Cheshire and Mersey part of the Scheme.

The post holder will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the North West School of Paediatrics and contribute to supporting the School Operational Programme.

The post holder will be a member of the School Board and School Executive Committee, with the Associate Head of School, and the other 8 TPDs from both Cheshire and Mersey and Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Contractual and organisational context As a result of NHS England's (NHSE) integration into the Department of Health, all educator recruitment activity — including extensions to existing contracts, new appointments and Secondments — will be on a Fixed Term basis with an end date of 31 October 2026.

We are currently reviewing the recruitment process beyond this date and will provide updates as soon as the new procedures are confirmed.

Responsibilities The Training Programme Director will focus on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

The role is evolving to include whole workforce transformation and development of multi-professional links.

Specific responsibilities include: Oversee the Specialty’s Regional Training Programme Address specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns Recruitment to training posts and programmes Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, Out of Programme (OOP) management, trainee management, careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and related work-streams Qualifications and experience The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Paediatric training across the region, and will have strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Other notes The Programme Director will ensure that both national standards (determined by the Royal College) and Paediatrics guidelines and standards are met.
