Report In Location - 1583 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus 43209
Work Hours: 7\:00am to 3\:30pm; On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Manage & direct the installation, repair, testing & preventative maintenance of all electronic & communication equipment operated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) to ensure uninterrupted operation of statewide communication system for day-to-day business & emergency responses as required by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) & adherence to other applicable rules & regulations:
Establish priorities, develop project schedules & participate in long-range planning;
Develop & implement section's policies & procedures for the administration & efficient operation at the Patrol Post;
Perform installation, repair, testing & preventative maintenance of all electronic & communication equipment (e.g., Multi-Agency Radio Communications System (MARCS), voice/data equipment, automatic vehicle location, resources & programs);
Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g., provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews);
Serve as technical liaison to implement electronic repairs, installations & other related activities (i.e., order & maintain inventory of spare parts for voice & data radio system, & process all invoices relating to Technology & Communication Services equipment);
Support multiple state agencies' communication needs, oversee installation, testing &/or repair of statewide voice &/or data telecommunications equipment;
Act as liaison for Patrol Post to internal & external agencies & vendors;
Inspect communications equipment condition & operation;
Evaluate training needs & arrange training sessions (e.g., consult with data processing & telecommunications personnel regarding section operations & needs &/or to exchange information, recommend training for end-users & for technical staff responsible for maintenance of voice & data radio equipment, provide technical assistance to agency personnel regarding telecommunications operations);
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Completion of two-year technical program in electronics, telecommunications, or radio communications
AND 4 yrs. exp. in electronics, or radio communications position;
AND hold General Radio Telephone Operator's License issued by Federal Communications Commission.;
AND 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in inventory control;
AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations;
AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in finance or economics covering topics of budgeting.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualification For Employment noted above.
Note: To meet the minimum qualifications through completion of a 2 yr. technical program, applicants must be able to verify that the technical program consisted of a minimum of 21 credit hours upon completion. (Please provide transcripts in this case)
Job Skills; Telecommunication Systems
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to high voltages, inclement weather, dust, dirt & fumes; may be exposed to mosquitoes, rodents, wasps & poisonous snakes at remote tower sites; on call 24 hrs., 7 days per week.
This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123\: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
Background Check Information
A BCI and FBI fingerprint check, a background check, including a polygraph examination, may be required on all selected applicants.
A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process.
This position is subject to Federal Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regulations that prohibit someone to carry, transport, or otherwise possess firearm(s) and/or ammunition from using or consuming marijuana in any form, including recreational marijuana, Ohio adult use cannabis, medical marijuana, or otherwise.
