Job Summary and Qualifications This position will primarily support the Oracle database platform.

Senior Database Administrators are expert level contributors within our Data Management organization.

A Senior DBA is an expert with strong previous experience across the database and deep working knowledge of the entire IT stack.

They have a key role in setting and implementing the enterprise technology direction for the Oracle database platform.

As such, they are expected to resolve highly difficult problems and support complex project implementations.

They have an essential role in the overall Data Strategy at HCA Healthcare and support mission critical applications across the enterprise.

As a Senior DBA, you will have the opportunity to grow and leverage your technical skills in database architecture, design, administration, engineering and tuning to manage our database environments.

A Senior DBA will work with other database administrators, system reliability engineers, technicians, business analysts, and business owners to implement solutions that improve database reliability for end-users.

Senior DBAs are expected to have a great deal of prior knowledge and experience, and will need to demonstrate the ability to learn quickly and thrive in a team-oriented environment.

While in this position, they are expected to showcase experience in the design, development, maintenance, and administration of the database platform.

Major Responsibilities * Provide technical support of database environments including software installation, database creation, upgrades, patches, problem diagnosis, performance monitoring, maintenance, process automation, evaluation, and tuning recommendations * Contribute to application development in all aspects of database integration including the deployment of requested database code and configuration changes, as well as reviewing SQL statements and guiding developers on best practices around how to interact with the database * Maintain a Highly Available database environment through the implementation and support of backup and restore capabilities, data replication, Disaster Recovery procedures and exercises, and failover to standby databases * Review project requests to estimate time, cost, and infrastructure required to successfully deliver the desired outcomes Oracle Specific Information * With databases ranging in size from less than 1 TB to over 50 TBs, we support multiple applications and teams in their pursuit of always available data.

Our infrastructures stacks include the latest hardware running on Oracle Exadata, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Linux VMs.

We are always testing new technologies from Oracle, but our current environment includes all of the below: * Oracle Database 19c and newer * Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c * Oracle Exadata X9 * Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) * Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) and Cluster File System (ACFS) Database High Availability using Active or Physical Data Guard with replication to standby databases * Recovery Manager (RMAN), Partitioning, & Lifecycle/Fleet Management * We are also actively pursuing rapid advancements in automation and reliability engineering, with projects on-going with the following tools: • Automating tasks with shell scripting and/or python • Push button provisioning and deployment with Ansible Tower • Source control with git • Code development, collaboration, and peer review with GitHub Job Skills * A strong communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to leadership, designers, support, and other technical resources * A team player who enjoys helping onboard new team members, mentoring, and teaching others * Demonstrated performance monitoring and tuning ability, including an aptitude to lead the diagnosis and resolution of performance problems within a large-scale, complex infrastructure * Demonstrated performance monitoring and tuning ability, including an aptitude to lead the diagnosis and resolution of performance problems within a large-scale, complex infrastructure * Expertise in one or more of the following: database partitioning, database compression, data encryption, replication, disaster recovery, and database security * Functional experience with Linux (or other unix) operating systems * Prefer experience writing or maintaining unix-based shell scripts (bash/korn), python, or other high-level scripting languages to automate database maintenance and operational processes * 5+ years of Hands-on database administration experience with Oracle database platform, including proficiency with Linux Server * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience * Performs other duties as assigned * Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement."
