Job Description Summary: The Human Milk Tech is responsible for highly specialized tasks for the preparation, inventory, distribution and management of mother's breast milk.
Both Human Milk (HM) and Donor Human Milk (DHM) will be processed for nutritional needs/additives in supporting the neonate in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Demonstrate competencies relative to infection control principles, appropriate technical calculation (weights and measures conversions, including metrics). Demonstrate knowledge of common medical abbreviations and terminologies, available formula products and human milk additives.
Effectively communicates with members of the health care team.
Responsibilities And Duties: 1.
25% Performs highly specialized tasks for handling of mother's own milk, banked human milk and commercial formulas for infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Preparing individualized Human Milk feedings following established procedures.
The technician is responsible for interpreting orders in EMR, reacting to order changes and performing complex calculations in the preparation of infant feedings.
Effectively communicates with appropriate nursing personnel for needed assistance with daily order changes and feeding order clarification.

25% Manages receiving and labeling of mother's Human Milk according to procedure.
Performs identification of Human Milk containers, inputs information into the MOMS barcoding system to thaw, fortify and label bottles of Human Milk.

20% Stores prepared feedings in patient care unit refrigerators, removing expired Human Milk, uses and practices proper storage times and temperatures for Human Milk at all times, rotates stored Human Milk to use oldest first and to minimize undue wastage, run the expired milk report daily and dispose Human Milk both literally and in fact from the MOMS system, removal of the discharged patient bins.

10% Cleans work surfaces and equipment prior to HM preparation, and in between each individual patient milk preparation follows aseptic techniques, follows infection control policies, maintains cleanliness of refrigerators and freezers on a daily and as needed basis, maintain cleanliness of storage bins in refrigerators and freezer s . 5.
10% Monitors daily inventory and orders additional nutrition room supplies as needed, stocks nutrition room with all needed supplies.

5% Maintains a working knowledge of technical terminologies and classifications as appropriate for the proper completion of job duties.
Participating in department in-services to maintain appropriate competence.
7.
5% Performs additional duties as assigned.
