JOB TITLE: Service Technician Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Transportation

REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None

SUMMARY:The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining our fleet of school buses to ensure the safety and reliability of student transportation. This role requires a strong understanding of bus mechanical systems, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Must be able to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions.

Must be able to qualify for Arizona State Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Possess and maintain ASE certification preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diagnose and Repair: Perform diagnostics and repairs on school buses, and determine which repairs need to be outsourced.

Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal performance and safety of the school bus fleet.

Safety Inspections: Perform safety checks and inspections in accordance with state and federal regulations to ensure all buses are compliant and safe for student transport.

Customer Service: Communicate with school district officials and bus drivers to understand and address vehicle issues, providing accurate estimates and timelines for repairs.

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all work performed, parts used, and interactions with school district personnel.

Tools and Equipment: Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.

Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with industry standards, company policies, and safety regulations.

Training and Development: Stay updated on the latest technologies and repair techniques specific to school buses through continuous education and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of safe and efficient vehicle maintenance practices.

Knowledge of tools, equipment, methods and practices used to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair systems on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.

Working knowledge of welding and fabrication.

Ability to safely use tools and equipment with skill and efficiency, to perform heavy work for an extended period and to understand and carry out oral directions.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.

Ability to establish priority ordering of tasks necessary to complete tasks and convey these understandings and priorities to others.

Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.

Ability to cope with job stress while exhibiting patience and tact when dealing with others.

Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.

Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.

Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

The employee must be physically able to meet the vision and hearing requirements set by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Shop environment. This position regularly works indoors and may also work outdoors in all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with students, employees and the public.
