Job Description

Senior Design Engineer – Solar + Storage Vallum Associates is partnered with a fast-growing renewable energy developer who is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design of commercial solar and battery storage projects.

This role covers everything from early-stage layouts to final as-builts, along with construction support and equipment review.

The Senior Engineer will also act as a technical lead, support project coordination, and mentor junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Design rooftop, canopy, and ground-mounted solar PV systems in compliance with codes and permitting

Produce electrical drawings, site plans, and detailed construction documents

Support project execution with construction teams, responding to technical questions and reviewing equipment specifications

Collaborate with utilities during interconnection processes

Lead process improvements, adopt new technologies, and maintain internal design standards

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and interns

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in commercial solar design; energy storage experience preferred

Skilled in AutoCAD; exposure to Helioscope or PVSyst a plus

Strong technical knowledge of PV systems and ability to create detailed drawings

NABCEP certification is a bonus

Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong communicator with experience collaborating across teams and with external partners. Additionally, some regional travel may be required.
