Illinois State Respiratory Care Practitioner License Job Details

Responsible for managing respiratory therapy processes including ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration, and airway management.

Performs patient care activities including all forms of respiratory therapy and non-invasive cardiology.

Interprets and executes physician orders and individualizes therapy to meet patient needs.

Performs patient education and documents medication and patient care errors.

Performs intubations and changes tracheostomy tubes as assigned.

Performs oxygen rounds and responds to emergency situations, RRT calls, and codes immediately.

Performs bedside lab testing (ABGs) and maintains quality control.

Maintains knowledge of all modes of ventilation and weaning modalities.

Performs ventilator checks every 2 hours and as needed, sets appropriate ventilator alarms.

Educates students and other health professionals about ventilator functions.

Documents ventilator settings, patient information, therapy, oxygen, ECGs, and diagnostic tests accurately.

Acts as patient advocate and collaborates with healthcare workers concerning patient care issues.

Assumes responsibility for ongoing professional growth and development, including learning new equipment and procedures, maintaining current license and credentials, and participating in clinical instruction. Job Requirements

Complete all mandatory education within the stated timeframe.

Knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures.
