Description
The Department of Public Safety at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Lieutenant position. The Lieutenant is a highly responsible supervisory position that involves assisting in the direction of personnel on an assigned watch or specialized supervisory or non-supervisory work of comparable responsibility.
Examples of Duties
Assist in directing personnel on an assigned watch or specialized supervisory or non-supervisory work of comparable responsibility.
Work may involve the proper supervision of all activities of assigned personnel that require considerable skills, abilities, and knowledge in interpreting orders, rules, and regulations, as well as, functioning efficiently and independently with only verbal instructions from supervisors.
Duties include having formal roll calls, producing shift line-ups, keeping time cards, consolidating time, investigating complaints on employees, making recommendations on employees, and making recommendations on employees' actions, conduct, and performance evaluations.
Perform other duties as directed.
Typical Qualifications
Applicant must have an Associate of Arts Degree from an accredited university or college.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college will be accepted in lieu of supervisory experience.
Applicant must have at least five years of law enforcement experience.
Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisor experience.
Must have current police certification from the State of Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training (BLEOST).
Applicant must display the ability to work with all officers and the ability to deal objectively with supervisors and subordinate personnel.
Applicant must not have any serious disciplinary actions on file.
