Why This Role Matters
At Springside Cheese, every wheel, block, and curd begins with the craft of cheesemaking. As an Assistant Cheesemaker, you'll help carry forward traditions that have been part of our family business for generations, while ensuring each batch is safe, consistent, and delicious. This role isn't just about following recipes - it's about taking pride in food craftsmanship, honoring food safety, and contributing to a process that brings people together over cheese they can trust and savor.
What You'll Do
Assist in the production of cheeses like Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby, and more by following recipes and production guidelines.
Operate and monitor cheesemaking equipment including pasteurizers, vats, and curd cutters.
Track and maintain key measurements such as temperature, pH, and curd development.
Conduct quality checks at every stage of production - from raw materials to finished cheese.
Package, cut, and label cheese using established procedures and equipment.
Keep inventory records of raw materials, packaging, and finished product, reporting needs promptly.
Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment by adhering to sanitation protocols and safety rules.
Assist with troubleshooting and reporting equipment issues.
Collaborate with fellow team members to ensure smooth, efficient production.
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
What It's Like Here
Cheesemaking is a hands-on craft that takes focus, collaboration, and care. You'll be working in production environments that can get warm, noisy, and physically demanding, with regular lifting, moving, and standing. Safety is always a priority, and protective equipment is part of the job. While the work is challenging, it's also deeply rewarding - you'll be part of a process that blends tradition with precision and produces something people love to share.
Why You'll Love It
You'll learn the art and science of cheesemaking alongside experienced makers.
You'll work in a culture of gratitude - where co-workers are treated like family and every role matters.
You'll contribute directly to products that connect people, families, and communities.
You'll take pride in knowing your efforts are part of what makes Springside Cheese special.
