The Shipping Clerk is responsible for the daily processing of product shipping orders. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Scan, pick and process product orders for shipment when additional resources are needed or instructed by manager.
Process special projects as requested by Account Managers or Shipping Manager, including miscellaneous, re-label or re-barcode orders requiring special shipping.
Close out jobs at end of shift, call in trucks, or drive lifts/stock pickers as needed in manager's absence.
Train new shipping processors and serve as their go-to person for procedure questions.
File hardcopy orders, bills of lading, etc. for the processing area.
Answer department phone in shipping manager's absence; coordinate scheduling appointments and/or communicating information back to CSR or Shipping Manager; maintain and communicate through email
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Load/unload or assist in loading/unloading product in or from trailer.
Practice safe work habits at all times as well as properly train new hires in the Shipping area
Complete all necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
Ability to work overtime as the job requires; additional duties as assigned
Adhere to daily production schedule; make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.
Maintain warehouse cleanliness throughout the entire warehouse, not just the Shipping area.
Make regular cycle counts on stock and actively participate in all inventories.
Coordinate outbound orders with and assign loads to trailers
Oversee all finished goods are stored.
Maintain outbound documentation.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent.
1-3 years' experience in a shipping setting with experience using scanners and shipping/postage software.
Forklift experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent communication skills; able to speak effectively to employees, managers, customers, etc.; ability to lead meetings competently and respond to questions; ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
SPECIALIZED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to operate a gas-powered forklift.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and frequent lifting of lighter items throughout the workday.
Basic computer skills with Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Basic shipping applications.
Ability to apply proper understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
