Position Overview
Entry level professional in water reclamation technical services, working under the general direction of the Water Reclamation Operations Supervisor. Requires basic knowledge of EPA-approved sample collection and testing methodologies related to wastewater. Performs environmental compliance activities such as plant and industrial wastewater sampling, analysis, field monitoring and inspection.
Summary of Job Duties
Performs routine and complex field sampling (e.g., collects industrial, wastewater, surface water, and biosolids samples) at MCES water reclamation facilities and various county locations, following EPA-approved methodologies and county standard operating procedures. Installs, operates and maintains basic field environmental monitoring and measuring instruments including probes, in-line instrumentation, multi-parameter data sondes, flow measuring devices, and automated samplers. Inspects and verifies customer installed devices. Properly documents all collection activities and completes associated chain of custody records.
Conducts field analytical methods, collects field monitoring data, and carries out laboratory analytical procedures. Prepares reagents and standards. Maintains laboratory instruments and field-testing equipment. Calibrates analytical and monitoring equipment and maintains calibration logs. Evaluates, maintains and makes repairs to equipment (e.g., tightening fittings, draining and cleaning vessels, replacing valves, tubing, filters, gaskets, gauges, and oiling/lubricating other component parts as required). Prepares and maintains both paper and electronic records, including laboratory and field sheets, reports, and QA/QC records. Utilizes computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to maintain and record data, compiles information for reports.
Performs routine regulatory inspections, including stormwater and BUSTR inspections at water reclamation facilities. Assists with industrial inspections and sewer-related investigations such as odors, illicit discharges, lift station flow changes, lift station contaminants, plant contaminants, and sanitary sewer overflows at lift stations. Performs routine safety equipment inspections, including eye wash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, and gas detectors. Documents all work on required forms and databases.
Supports water reclamation facility operations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must have at least six (6) months of experience in environmental sampling, wastewater laboratory work or equivalent laboratory analysis; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the minimum class requirements.
Supplemental Information
Driving Requirement: Must maintain a current, valid United States driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Training and Development:
Must pass the ABC Test. Must register and sit for OEPA Class 1 Operator-in-Training (OIT) exam within six (6) months of start date. Must obtain OEPA Class 1 OIT license within one (1) year of hire. Must maintain all required licensures.
