Job Summary

The MRC Representative represents Union Members in grievance meetings and mediation hearings. The MRC Representative acts as liaison between Members, Union Delegates, Administrative Organizers, and other pertinent parties. This position investigates, files, processes, monitors, updates, and maintains grievance and mediation case information and resolves expected and unexpected issues. The MRC representative is responsible for answering questions of members, Union staff and HR/management representatives revolving around cases, processing ULPs with NLRB/SERB, and investigating potential grievances. This position secondarily assists with answering phone calls made to the MRC and fulfilling Member requests. Staff are expected to uphold and drive the mission of the Union throughout the course of their work.

Responsibilities

Identifies, files, and processes grievances

Represents Union Members in grievance meetings when Delegates are unavailable and often assists Delegates/Grievance Chairs during meetings, etc.

Represents Union Members in grievance mediations

Prepares for hearings via conversations with Grievants and Delegates, including investigations of grievances and compilation and review of relevant documentation and information pertinent to grievances

Submits information requests to employers

Requests arbitration panels from FMCS or AAA online

Coordinates and schedules arbitration hearings and strike arbitration panels, based on parties' availability

Assists other MRC staff with preparation for arbitration

When MRC Associate is unavailable: answers phone calls and text messages that come into the MRC, processes Member inquires, and fulfill requests and forwards member and public inquires when appropriate

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED

Basic experience with Microsoft Office

Basic writing skills

Understanding of active listening techniques

Ability to work well under pressure

Must pass a criminal background check
