Job Summary:

The Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) is responsible for the daily operation of the Bio Med Department at Sonoma Specialty Hospital.

Biomedical Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

Approves new biomedical equipment by conducting tests; ensuring adherence to codes; making modifications.

Installs new biomedical equipment by establishing, adjusting, calibrating, and testing performance.

Maintains biomedical equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules; conducting tests; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions; calling for special service; evaluating service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories.

Directs biomedical equipment operation by providing equipment operation demonstrations; instructing other healthcare staff in use and care of equipment; answering questions; providing information.

Evaluates proposed biomedical equipment by conducting tests and evaluations.

Improves biomedical equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction; conferring with equipment users; developing modifications; collaborating with equipment manufacturers.

Maintains biomedical equipment supplies inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

Prepares biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.

Maintains patient confidence by keeping information confidential.

Maintains safe and healthy working environment by conducting safety tests; recommending and complying with procedures; training and guiding medical and healthcare personnel; complying with codes.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications; maintaining personal networks.

Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Education, Training and Licenses Preferred:

Associates degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology is desirable, or a minimum of two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.

Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician

ACI certification through AAMI

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

Knowledge of problem-solving skills with the ability to be proactive and strategic, as well as tactical.

Knowledge of department policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general applications such as e-mail, database management, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Knowledge of internal computer systems and a general "IT support" problem solving ability.

Knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.

Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedical equipment.

Skill with interpersonal listening and communication on all levels.

Skill in thinking quickly and accurately, able to evaluate problems and make appropriate recommendations to person(s) involved guiding them to the best possible outcome.

Skill in testing electronic equipment and in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision. Skill with attention to detail and a focus to deliver a customer driven service model.

Ability to exercise creativity, initiative and sound judgment in assisting customers, clients, peers and team members.

Ability to enable, motivate and inspire team members and clients.

Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment. Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections and run diagnostic programs. Ability to comprehend instructions and effectively communicate them to others.

Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration and tests.
