Job Description
RESPEC seeks Student Structural Engineer Interns for our Sioux Falls, SD and Cheyenne, WY office locations. This position will be part of our 2026 Summer Internship Program. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain real-world experience with a growing North American engineering consulting firm. This is a temporary part-time position.
This hands-on design position is within RESPEC’s Facilities (Structural) Market Sector. This internship position will work alongside our firm’s full-time employees to learn how professional services are provided to our clients. Our experienced staff will provide mentoring and coaching to our interns to allow development of civil engineering skills and knowledge. Interns will get exposed to our clients, job sites, communities, as well as collaborate with our RESPEC multi-discipline team on public and private sector clients. Additional responsibilities include:
Assist with design work
Perform calculations and simulations
Research topics as assigned
Assist with field inspections
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in civil engineering
Preferred qualifications include the following:
Solid time management skills and ability to produce accurate, high-quality work in an efficient manner
Coursework in steel, wood, concrete, and precast/prestressed concrete design
Good working knowledge of fundamental of structural engineering concepts
Self-motivated and detail-oriented
Strong problem-solving and math skills
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Team player who strives to provide quality work
Some proficiency with Autocad Revit
