General Statement of Duties:
Automotive Technology Lab Technicians work closely with the department chair and faculty to provide hands-on instructional support and technical assistance in the Automotive Technology program. They prepare, maintain, and operate shop and classroom equipment, set up demonstrations, and assist students with lab projects and applied learning activities. Technicians ensure a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment that reinforces course content and prepares students with the skills required for today's automotive workforce.
Responsibilities:
Assist instructors with demonstrations and automotive diagnostics, inspections, and repair procedures using industry-standard equipment.
Prepare, organize, and stage tools, training aids, and instructional materials for classroom and lab activities.
Operate and maintain automotive shop equipment (lifts, diagnostic scanners, oscilloscopes, alignment machines, etc.) in support of instruction.
Maintain shop cleanliness, safety, and organization, including proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
Provide guidance to students on safe and effective use of automotive tools and equipment.
Support student learning by clarifying repair processes, reinforcing safety procedures, and answering technical questions.
Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and consumables; restock as needed.
Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance, calibration, inventory, and lab activities.
Assist in the preparation of instructional resources such as demonstrations, parts displays, and multimedia learning aids.
Perform related duties, such as coordinating with vendors, arranging transportation of training vehicles, and participating in program meetings. Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in automotive work in a recognized program (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in automotive or related field may be substituted for the required experience.
II. The successful completion of one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, education toward a degree at a recognized automotive program may be substituted for the required experience.
Valid driver's license and ability to operate a variety of vehicles. Desired Qualifications:
Three (3) years of full-time technical or professional automotive experience.
Preference given for two or more ASE Certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical experience operating automotive shop equipment in compliance with safety standards.
Knowledge of automotive safety practices, maintenance, and hazardous materials handling.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull shop equipment, tools, and materials.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) and databases for record keeping.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with students and colleagues. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience operating both electrical and non-electrical automotive/laboratory equipment, including safe handling of hazardous materials, chemicals, fuels, lubricants, and other potentially dangerous substances.
In-depth knowledge of automotive safety practices, preventative maintenance, and care of vehicles and equipment.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, parts, and equipment; capable of standing, bending, and moving between shop stations for extended periods.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel) and database systems for maintaining inventory, logs, and student records.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks under pressure, and maintain focus in a high-noise, fast-paced shop environment with exposure to high-voltage systems, moving machinery, and fumes.
Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as required by class schedules or special projects.

Additional Information:
Salary: $53,769.30-$75,606.44
An appointment made from outside the bargaining unit will be at step one unless the collective bargaining agreement dictates otherwise.
