Overview

Join to apply for the Lecturer in American Sign Language role at Inside Higher Ed.

The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CLLC) at The Ohio State University seeks to appoint one full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer in the American Sign Language (ASL) Program starting in the spring semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The ASL Program offers an elementary language sequence, an ASL Studies Minor, and a forthcoming Major, with a full-immersion teaching approach and an internally developed curriculum. The program is administered within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Responsibilities

The position involves teaching eight classes in the ASL General Education language program, undergraduate programs, and/or certificate program through the Center over two semesters (Autumn & Spring) and participating in staff meetings and discussions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required: Masters degree or higher in Teaching ASL as a Foreign/Second Language, Education, Linguistics, Deaf Studies, Interpreting, or a related field. Candidates without a Masters degree are encouraged to apply but will require additional approval from the Office of Academic Affairs to be considered. Native or near-native fluency in ASL; knowledge of Deaf culture and history; broad experience within the Deaf community; and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member. Strongly preferred: knowledge of ASL pedagogy and demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching. The successful candidate is expected to teach in person at the Columbus Campus.
