Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) functions as an integral member of the patient care team, whose members reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed toward quality patient care outcomes, reduction of length of hospitalizations, and reduction of cost.

Position Summary

The AA is a certified non-physician anesthesia provider who demonstrates excellence in all areas of anesthesia practice including anesthesia case management, staff education, and clinical research. The AA manages complex, unpredictable anesthesia situations. The AA must be competent in technical, cognitive, and interpersonal skills required to serve patients receiving anesthesia care and services. The AA is expected to practice within the established Medical Center guidelines, state medical board statutes, anesthesia policies, procedures, and protocols, and adhere to the Intensive Caring Value Statements. The AA works as a member of the patient care team and collaborates with an MDA in the anesthetic care of each patient.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Master's Degree; graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited school for anesthesia assistants (18- or 24-month program); current certification from the NCCAA; current licensure from the Ohio State Medical Board; current ACLS certification; must be eligible to obtain clinical privileges as designated by the OSUMC Corporate Credentialing Office.
