Overview
The successful candidates will serve as a Level III Nondestructive Test (NDT) Examiner supporting Electric Boat's Quonset Point, RI facility. Potential candidates selected will be stationed at Quonset Point with travel occasionally required between Quonset Point and Groton facilities. The successful candidates will report directly to the Quonset Point NDT Engineering (NDTE) Supervisor. Primary responsibilities are to monitor the performance of Level I and Level II personnel, develop and qualify NDT procedures for specific applications, review and monitor the NDT Training programs, and administer examinations to certify/recertify Level I and Level II personnel. Special projects will be assigned at the discretion of the NDTE Supervisor. The Examiner will provide technical guidance and expertise for both nuclear and non-nuclear applications at Electric Boat.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Review, administer, and ensure shipyard compliance with respect to fabrication, welding, and NDT military specifications
Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field on NDT
Provide technical guidance and expertise with respect to on-site construction support and problem resolution
Serve as project or technical lead on both in-house and externally funded development and process improvement/cost reduction tasks
Evaluate new developments in the NDT field for possible application to current and future construction
Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Design and Engineering departments as well as NAVSEA Customer representatives
Prepare technical reports as result of testing, research and development, and investigations
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Presently or previously certified as a Level II in two (2) or more surface (VT, PT, MT) NDT methods OR,
Presently or previously certified as a Level II in one (1) or more surface (VT, PT, MT) and one (1) volumetric (UT, RT) NDT methods OR,
Presently or previously certified as a Level III in one (1) or more NDT methods
Must be able to certify to Level III Examiner status, as recognized by Electric Boat, within one (1) year.
Preferred:
Level II or III experience in VT, MT, PT, and either UT or RT
3+ years' experience as a certified Level III Examiner
Remote Visual inspection experience utilizing borescopes
Previous or current American Welding Society (AWS) certified weld inspector (CWI) certification
Previous experience in writing and qualifying NDT procedures
Experience in Quality in an industrial environment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
Familiarity with Military specifications (Tech Pub 271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1)
A background engineering or engineering support
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in an engineering or related field

Applicant must be able to read, write, and interpret specifications, procedures, reports, and other documents
Applicant must have the ability to understand basic principles of multiple NDT methods and applications to determine weld and base metal performance
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to ensure effective interface with a variety of organizations
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations make recommendations and take prompt and effective action.
Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent)
