SUMMARY OF POSITION:
In this role, you will be responsible for selecting appropriate packaging materials and developing packaging designs to minimize waste, reduce costs, and ensure product safety during transportation and storage. You will also create packaging prototypes and conduct testing to meet the required specifications. You will be required to work closely with different teams across the company to make packaging solutions efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective.
JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitor days of supply levels via regular container inventories and make needed process adjustments to ensure stable supply.
Ensure that production has the right containers available to meet the production schedule by auditing container inventory and shipping containers to the plant as required.
Unload and receive returnable containers and enter receipts into the customer Container Management System and store the containers by type in the assigned area.
Maintain the container fleet by sending damaged containers out for repair, replacing placards, and cleaning the containers on the schedule specified by the customer by pressure washing, wiping and or vacuuming.
Maintain the correct number of containers in inventory by requesting container shipments or pickups from the customer.
Conduct "stock taking" physical inventory of containers as required by customer book the balances in CMS.
Complete reconciliations, orders, complaints, and requests for expendable use payments for containers.
Perform root cause analysis activities and host meetings with process partners to resolve issues that arise during daily operations.
Cross train to assist in shipping, receiving, and line support as required for backup requirements.
Ideate, develop, and implement packaging solutions that meet the needs of the company, regulatory bodies, and customers.
Identify, evaluate, and select ideal packaging materials, machinery, and equipment.
Work on reducing packaging-related costs and improving the efficiency of the product packaging process.
Monitor industry trends and innovations to stay updated with best practices and technologies for packaging.
Design packaging solutions that protect and preserve products during transportation, storage and handling.
Conduct feasibility studies to determine the suitability of packaging solutions for specific products.
Analyze data and research to improve the packaging process and implement relevant solutions.
Developing and executing standard operating procedures and guidelines for product packaging in the company.
Ensure consistency and quality of packaging across the organization.
Become the resident expert on returnable containers and assist the team in container related issues.
Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor and management.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field.
3+ years of experience in packaging design and development.
Strong knowledge of packaging technology, materials, and design principles with knowledge of testing methods, regulations, and standards for packaging.
Familiarity with production equipment and manufacturing processes.
Understanding of sustainability and environmental issues related to packaging.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software with project management skills.
Strong creative skills for developing unique packaging solutions using current trends.
Supply Chain/Operations/Logistics experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
3-5 years of prior work experience within logistics, ideally in a material control, transportation management, or logistics planning role is preferred.
Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Excel functionalities
Familiarity with business intelligence (BI) software
Ability to perform in a cross-functional team.
Self-starter mindset, able to explore/research solutions independently.
Understanding of regulatory requirements related to packaging materials and design.
Familiarity with packaging robotics and automation.
Experience with packaging-related software.
Ability to work collaboratively or individually.
