Job Description

Summary:

Our Substation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of electrical substations, which include high-voltage equipment used to control and distribute electricity. They ensure safe and efficient operation of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and protective relays. *Potential Sign-on Bonus Opportunity for qualified candidates.*

Key Responsibilities:

Install, test, maintain, and repair substation equipment.

Perform inspections and diagnostic tests on electrical systems to detect malfunctions or potential failures.

Monitor and troubleshoot issues in electrical systems and perform corrective maintenance.

Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, maintenance logs, and equipment calibrations.

Assist in the commissioning of new substations and upgrades of existing systems.

Operate test equipment such as multimeters, insulation testers, and relay test sets.

Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, NESC, and company regulations.

Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Coordinate with Superintendent during outages and restoration efforts.

Respond to emergency call-outs for substation-related outages or issues.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree in electrical technology preferred.

2–5 years of experience working with high-voltage electrical systems, preferably in a utility or industrial setting.

Certifications:

CPR and First Aid certification.

OSHA 10/30 (preferred).

CDL (preferred but not required).

Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of electrical theory and high-voltage systems.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Proficiency in using test instruments and tools related to substation maintenance.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in outdoor environments and in various weather conditions.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.

Work Environment:

Primarily field-based work at substations and power facilities.

Exposure to high-voltage electrical equipment and loud noise.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.Company Description
