Job Description
We are an up-and-coming ACE Hardware store located in the heart of Los Altos, California. Our mission is to become the go-to neighborhood resource for home improvement, hardware, and customer service. We are looking for a hands-on, experienced General Manager to lead our team, drive store growth, and ensure that every customer leaves with the solutions they need.
Position Overview
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of daily store operations, including staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, inventory management, and community engagement. This individual must be both a strong leader and a team playercapable of rolling up their sleeves and setting the tone for exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Recruit, hire, train, and develop store associates.
Lead by example to create a positive, service-driven culture.
Schedule and manage staff to meet business needs.
Operations & Financial Performance
Manage day-to-day store operations, including opening/closing procedures.
Ensure store meets or exceeds sales and profitability goals.
Control expenses, payroll, and shrink.
Maintain compliance with ACE standards, policies, and programs.
Customer Experience
Ensure high standards of customer service are delivered consistently.
Resolve customer concerns and build long-term community relationships.
Represent the store within the local business community.
Merchandising & Inventory
Oversee ordering, stocking, and inventory control.
Ensure store layout, displays, and signage are engaging and effective.
Maintain product mix aligned with customer needs.
Qualifications
5+ years of retail management experience, preferably in hardware, home improvement, or specialty retail.
Proven ability to recruit, motivate, and lead a team.
Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, sales goals, and expenses.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Hands-on, customer-first mindset.
Familiarity with ACE Hardware systems and programs is a plus.
