Department: Police Department Location: Angleton Police Station Reports To: Telecommunications Sergeant Classification: B22 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt This position requires working shift work.

SUMMARY 911 operators must respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information.

They must provide communication support for police, fire, EMS, and the general public.

911 operators are responsible for making split-second decisions, where a momentary lapse of attention can have a disastrous consequence.

**This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Must be 18 years of age or older Must not have any Class B or above convictions.

Must undergo a background investigation that meets all local, state, and federal requirements, as well as a drug screen and physical examination.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, drug, and alcohol screen.

Operate a multi-line telephone console system, alerting system, understand and operate multiple computer programs, and a TDD system for the hearing-impaired Translate information to the appropriate nature code Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter data into a computer-aided dispatch system for dispatching purposes Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions Monitor and operate a radio console and computer equipment Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints Ask questions to interpret, analyze, and anticipate the caller's situation to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer callers to other agencies Dispatch and coordinate the responses of public safety agencies Identify the appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch Enters, modifies, clears, and cancels into local, state, and national computer databases Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.

Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required Must be able to complete a comprehensive training program during the first year of employment.
