Position Overview Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist I SALARY: $866.7 - $971.7/month for a 12 hour per week schedule LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of designated Horticulture staff, the Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist I works with faculty, staff, and students of the Horticulture program and department.
The primary duties of this position include: 1.) Assisted the greenhouse manager with keeping the greenhouse and surrounding department growing spaces clean and organized 2.) Interact with students, answer general questions, and provide assistance as needed; 3.) Weeding outside areas and the Horticulture Garden; 4.) Propagation of seedlings, cuttings, and plant divisions, and performing plant transplanting; and 5.) Preparing plants for sale.
This is a classified position reporting to the Dean of Business.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To: * Watering plants * Cleaning of benches, tables, floors, and outdoor area * Cleaning and sanitizing of outdoor containers * Emptying compost carts * Notify the greenhouse manager of anything--greenhouse pipes and fans, irrigation system, etc.--that is, broken or malfunctioning or of any problems occurring within the nursery and surrounding area that may require attention.
* Interacting with students.
* Answering general questions * Assisting students when necessary * Weeding * Regularly weeding and watering outside areas * Occasional weeding and watering of Hort Garden * Working with plants.
* Propagation of seedlings, cuttings, and plant divisions.
* Performing plant transplanting * Preparing plants for sale * Other duties as assigned.
(See Conditions of Employment section for additional requirements.) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * HSE or GED * General knowledge of plant care * Ability to work within a collaborative environment and meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed onsite/in-person.
Work is generally physical.
Ability to use standard, non-power gardening implements; sit, stand, and crouch for extended periods of time; ability to lift 30 pounds; hand dexterity for weeding, potting, and working with small and large plants.
Excellent communication skills are essential.
This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language.
This also includes the ability to produce clearly written documents.

WORK SCHEDULE: Permanent part time: up to 12 hours per week.
COMPENSATION: Salary is Range 32, $866.7 - $971.7/month for a 12 hour per week schedule, with progressive increases to $1,143.3.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
Paid PTO/Sick leave on an accrual basis.
