The Medication Utilization Strategy Pharmacist leads optimization of medication utilization to ensure the safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective medication use across UVA Medical Center.

This position will oversee utilization of medications to identify and support development of medication use guidelines, policies, or protocols regarding optimal medication use.

This position supports the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Subcommittees to include formulary management and oversight, facilitation of committees, and development of drug monographs/MUEs/formulary reviews/pharmacoeconomic analysis/and best practice recommendations to the committees.

This position will develop clinical and operational drug shortage management strategies to ensure optimal use of available medications, in collaboration with clinical and operational pharmacy teams.

This position will collect, analyze, and disseminate information on medication utilization, and integrate with systems and processes including clinical, safety, prescribing, administration, procurement, and distribution systems to optimize medication use across UVA Medical Center.

This position will identify opportunities for stewardship of high cost or high use medications to limit waste, generate revenue, or reduce overall cost of care; executes approved action plans and continuously tracks progress of stewardship initiatives.

Additional responsibilities may include strategic partnerships with Service Line leaders, representation on medical center committees, and collaboration on department and inter-professional initiatives.

+ In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Doctor of Pharmacy required.

EXPERIENCE: PGY-1 Required, PGY-2 Preferred (HSPA, Managed Care, Informatics, Medication Use Safety, Drug Information, Medication Systems, Medication Management, or other) or 3 years hospital pharmacy experience LICENSURE: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires sitting for prolonged periods and frequently traveling.

Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
