Position Description
St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Recreation Facilities Coordinator for our well-established Parks and Recreation Department. This position will be based out of Ketterlinus Gym in downtown St. Augustine and will oversee athletic and recreation programming that extends across the entire county.

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation provides safe, fun, and healthy opportunities for both residents and visitors. The county maintains nearly 50 active and passive parks, 12 boat ramps, 7 community centers, over 40 miles of coastline, a fishing pier, an 18-hole golf course, and hundreds of youth and adult activities. Our department is as diverse as the natural ecosystems that surround us, and we work together as a team to create outstanding programming for the whole community.
The newly appointed Recreation Facilities Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of athletic and recreation programming throughout the county, with primary office space located at Ketterlinus Gym.
This role requires a flexible schedule with a strong focus on evening responsibilities (often until 10:30 p.m.) and weekend programming. The position is well-suited for candidates who thrive in dynamic, people-centered environments, can balance multiple priorities, and have a strong sports management background.
Examples of Duties
Coordinates the provision of athletic and sports programs in county parks and facilities. Collaborates with County staff, outside agencies, and community organizations for program development and delivery.
Maintains accurate customer records, applications, waivers, and related documents.
Coordinates, monitors, trains, and assigns work for designated staff. Assists with evaluations, time sheet collection, and scheduling.
Facilitates conflict resolution between participants, guardians, and staff; ensures proper use of facilities and equipment.
Assists with administrative functions, including accounts payable/receivable, budget preparation, bank deposits, and required reporting.
Supports department-wide initiatives such as fundraising, educational materials, membership drives, and special events.
Maintains a full-time presence with rotating shifts, including morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend schedules.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for the Recreation Facilities Coordinator are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, one (1) to three (3) years of verifiable experience in facility management or event planning.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
Must be able to operate a computer.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in sports management, recreation administration, or related field.
Experience developing athletic programming for diverse community populations.
Strong problem-solving, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills
