General Responsibilities:
Design and deliver face-to-face, online, and distance learning courses in the areas of English Composition, Technical Writing, and Literature; develop and update curricula to ensure relevance and effectiveness; remain current in teaching field; provide academic advising; serve on college committees; assist with student recruitment; participate in college events.
Examples of Duties
Job Functions:
Provide high quality instruction, teach courses as assigned, provide students with course documentation, demonstrate effective interaction skills, relate instruction/materials to course objectives, develop creative class activities, use various teaching techniques, and organize instruction.
Provide academic advising, assist with recruitment, develop and implement successful retention activities, assist in graduate placement, assist in student orientation/registration, provide appropriate safety instruction.
Manage classroom/lab, clinic activities in an orderly manner, hold 8 office hours per week, submit all required reports in a timely manner, prepare budget projections for equipment and supplies, and practice good housekeeping, repair equipment as appropriate.
Design new programs, revise curricula, develop new courses, develop and revise instructional materials for current courses, participate in advisory committees.
Work on college committees, perform public service for the college, supervise/chaperone student events, promote the purpose and institutional objections of the college, and build rapport with employers of graduates.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
A doctorate or master's degree in English, or a doctorate or master's degree with 18 graduate hours in English.
Preferred Requirements:
The minimum as listed under Minimum Requirements plus previous teaching experience in field, preferably with multimedia technology, learning management systems, conferencing software, and online instruction. Experience teaching writing and literature using student-self assessment curricula is also desired. The preferred candidate would have experience with appreciative advising and proficiency in using and identifying AI tools and technology for educational purposes.

Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
