Job Summary
Provides direct support to individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Conducts disability eligibility analyses, provides referrals, approves reasonable accommodations, and connects individuals with services to support their personal and/or academic goals. Educates campus constituencies regarding support for individuals with disabilities and facilitates compliance with the ADA/ADAAA and related federal, state, and local regulations and University policies.
Essential Job Duties
Perform intake interviews to gain a foundational understanding of individual needs and evaluate information from medical and/or psychological professionals to determine eligibility; makes referrals and/or consults with diagnosticians, as necessary
Work with individuals to determine reasonable accommodations needed for academic, professional and/or personal success; connects individuals to and/or provides direct resources and services
Educate students, families, faculty and staff on appropriate services for and communications with individuals with disabilities; compiles and distributes necessary documentation to verify the need for accommodation
Assist individuals with solving obstacles unique and/or common to individuals with disabilities; interfaces with campus constituencies to ensure individuals gain equitable access to resources
Increase understanding regarding issues affecting individuals with disabilities by delivering presentations, trainings, workshops and/or educational materials related to research and best practices
Record interactions with individuals with disabilities and analyzes effectiveness of accommodations; compiles reports and analyzes data related to accommodations, compliance, and program efficacy
Maintain confidentiality of university and student records, as applicable
Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and/or systems
Serve as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act
Serve as an advocate for providing student approved accommodations
Assist with assessment and evaluation of program and services
Maintain accurate records
Participate in professional development activities including conferences, workshops, and webinars
Analyze, interpret, and monitor applicable local, state, and federal regulations on ADA issues
Collaborate with leadership/management to develop plans and budgets for important accessibility projects
Provide guidance and serve as a liaison to internal stakeholders, public and private agencies, advisory groups, and other external stakeholders in the planning and administration of ADA compliance
Develop and maintain written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the ADA and the entity's policies relating to persons with disabilities
Respond to general inquiries from the public
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor's degree
At least 3 years of related experience
Must have one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience
Must have experience handling secure and confidential documents
Must have working knowledge of Section 504 and ADA compliance issues
Must have previous experience or working knowledge of ADA technology hardware and software
Certification in ADA compliance is preferred
Physical Demands
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to walk short distances
Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
Ability to prepare and analyzing data and figures
Ability to view a computer terminal; extensive reading
Ability to lift at least 10 pounds
Skills and Attributes
Knowledge of:Teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavioral disabilities, where applicable
