We're seeking an experienced eDiscovery Lead to join our Legal team and lead our electronic discovery operations.
This role will be responsible for managing all aspects of eDiscovery processes, from litigation holds through production, while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and optimizing efficiency across our legal matters.
You will be working within the Litigation & Regulatory Compliance team, but you will often partner with our other Legal colleagues, Technical Program Management, Engineering, Data, Security, and other relevant functions.
This is an individual contributor position reporting to the VP of Litigation & Regulatory Compliance.
What you'll be doing * Supporting litigation, regulatory investigations, and internal investigations by managing end-to-end eDiscovery processes (e.g., identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of ESI) * Working collaboratively with data, privacy, engineering, security, other XFN teams, and outside counsel on eDiscovery strategy and execution (including the implementation of litigation holds and data retention practices) * Managing relationships with external eDiscovery vendors and experts * Developing and maintaining eDiscovery protocols, technologies, and tools (working with XFN partners as appropriate), and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce costs * Collaborating with IT teams to understand Discord's data architecture and ensure effective data collection strategies * Staying current with evolving eDiscovery law, technology, and best practices, and ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations governing electronic discovery What you should have * Bachelor's degree * 10+ years of hands-on eDiscovery experience in a consumer-facing technology company's in-house legal department * Familiarity with eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Opentext, Casepoint, etc.) and developments in legal tech (e.g., AI or TAR) * Experience with cloud-based data sources and communication platforms, such as Discord, Google Workspace, Notion, etc.
* Knowledge of federal and state procedural/discovery rules, and relevant case law * Project management experience with ability to handle multiple matters * Exceptional analytical and communication skills that work for both Legal and Engineering * Deep understanding of complex data infrastructure, data analytics, and industry best practices Bonus points * Experience with social media/gaming platforms * Certifications in eDiscovery tools (Relativity Certified Administrator, etc.) * Experience with international data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) * Experience managing vendor relationships and budgets Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $196,000 to $220,500 + equity + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
