Description
The purpose of this position is to provide for the safety and security of incoming and outgoing inmates and visitors to the Detention Center. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Examples of Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Enforces security rules, regulations and procedures; and the provision of services and information to inmates.
Receives and books inmates including fingerprinting, photographing and issuing uniforms.
Collects, inventories and logs inmate's property at booking.
Maintains routine operations and security of the jail including checks jail to verify that all inmates are accounted for, monitors location and activity of inmates.
Activates inmate phone accounts; places inmate monies into accounts.
Completes and maintains all arrest and booking reports on all inmates and persons placed on bond.
Places inmates in an assigned jail cell and removes them for release or transportation.
Ensures all cell check reports are properly completed and incident reports are included.
Arranges for escort to transport to other locations.
Assures safety and health of inmates.
Monitors inmates' activity in jail cells.
Ensures inmates receive meals.
Provides security for medical staff during medication pass and medical visits.
Arranges for prisoner to be transported for medical care as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.
Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Certification.
South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Supervisory Training Course.
CPR and First Aid Certification.
NCIC Certification.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
