The City of Reedley is recruiting for two (2) Part-Time Expanded Learning Recreation Leader positions in the Community Services Department for the 2024-2025 school year.

This position is in the Community Services Department and subject to the terms and conditions of employment as specified in the City's Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual. Please review the job description below for employment requirements.

This is a part-time hourly rated position and schedules are subject to change and hours are not guaranteed.

Position Information

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Community Services Director or assigned Recreation Coordinator, Expanded Learning Program (ELP) Recreation Leader and Assistant Site Coordinator program staff will provide for the safety and enrichment of students in the Expanded Learning Program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Expanded Learning Recreation Leader- This is an entry-level position in the Expanded Learning Program.

Expanded Learning Assistant Site Coordinator - This is a higher-level position with some administrative duties in addition to the duties performed by the Recreation Leader. This position performs the duties of the Site Coordinator when the incumbent is absent.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Expanded Learning Recreation Leader

Exercises no supervision.

Expanded Learning Assistant Site Coordinator

May exercise supervision over Expanded Learning Program staff in the absence of the Site Coordinator and while teaching techniques and strategies.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

(may include but are not limited to the following)

Organize, lead, and conduct recreation and enrichment activities, including arts, crafts, sports, games, cooking, singing, and science.

Create lesson plans for enrichment classes, implement new ideas for class topics, and instruct classes.

Assist students with daily homework.

Maintain discipline on indoor and outdoor play areas to ensure student safety.

Set up and clean up necessary supplies and equipment.

Keep assigned areas clean and free of any and all safety hazards at all times.

Report attendance.

Serve daily snack provided by the program and clean up snack area.

Keep daily records of snack program.

Attend all meetings and trainings.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Experience:

A minimum of two years of experience with children between the ages of 5-13 is desired.

Have experience with planning, organizing, and leading a wide variety of recreation activities.

Know the basic rules, practices and equipment used in specialized recreation activities.

Education:

Must have course work equal to 48 college units in child development or related field.

OR

Must have a passing certificate for the Paraprofessional Exam.

Training:

Community First Aid and CPR Certification desirable (certification may be obtained after employment is offered)

License or Certificate:

TB Test Negative Reading in the last 4 years

Expanded Learning Assistant Site Coordinator

In addition to the qualifications for an Expanded Learning Recreation Leader, the knowledge, skills, abilities, education and training detailed below are required or desirable for the Expanded Learning Assistant Site Coordinator.

Knowledge of:

Facility maintenance and expectations for City of Reedley's responsibility on the school campus.

Daily snack count and distribution, including completion of daily and monthly paperwork required by the District.

Lead training exercises and support Expanded Learning Recreation Leaders with required skills through leading by example.

City policies and procedures for staff disciplinary action.

Skill to:

Be proficient and knowledgeable in all class grades.

Coach students who are struggling.

Provide support to Expanded Learning Recreation Leaders in all aspects of their job.

Ability to:

Perform the duties of the Expanded Learning Site Coordinator when the incumbent is absent or position is vacant.

Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information received while performing the duties of this position.

Train new staff and teach classroom management techniques.

Communicate effectively with parents.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Experience:

Minimum of two years working in an Expanded Learning or childcare setting.

Experience with supervising/leading staff is desirable.

Special Requirements:

Essential duties require the following:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The employee will be expected to clean and maintain the equipment and the facility, and may move throughout the community with children. The employee may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.

The employee will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at the same time. The employee is required to supervise all of the children at all times, ensure that the children are involved in safe and appropriate activities, and be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.

The employee may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill.
