Job Summary:

An Ordinary Seaman / Deckhand is an entry level unlicensed position working primarily in the Deck Department. Primary responsibilities may include vessel mooring, cargo operations, general maintenance, look-out, and general sanitation/cleaning duties.

An Ordinary Seaman / Deckhand may be required to work in any shipboard department, including Deck, Engine, or Galley based on the needs or the vessel.

Specific Duties:

Perform a host of physical labors involving the general maintenance (i.e. painting, chipping, etc.) and cargo operations on board the vesse

Ensure decks and tunnels are cleaned of cargo residue as appropriate and are also responsible for general sanitation/cleaning of work areas and common space

Participates in mooring operations as directed using cables and winches, preparing the vessel for arrival and departure which includes the release and secure of the hatch clamps on all cargo hold covers, operating the hatch crane, and cleaning of cargo holds.

Able to work as a "day worker," living and working seven days a week in a shipboard environment with potentially irregular and prolonged hours. These duties are performed in all weather conditions.

Employee must understand that all commands, written and verbal, will be in English.

Qualifications/Certifications required:

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certificate

Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)

Legally eligible to be employed in the United States (Proof of identity and eligibility will be required upon employment)

Able to pass a drug test and participate in a random testing program
