GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple Ferry Crewmembers (FC) to support our operations across various locations in Virginia which includes Bristol, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Newport News, Suffolk, Surry, Salem, Lynchburg, Staunton, Culpeper & Richmond, VA within the Transportation Operations Division.
The Ferry Crewmember will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and operation of ferry vessels while providing excellent service and safety support to passengers and vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct vehicles and passengers during loading and unloading operations, ensuring proper spacing and safe egress.
Properly chock the first and last vehicle in each lane for safety.
Provide information and assistance to passengers in a courteous and professional manner.
Handle lines, stand lookout watch, and patrol decks to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
Maintain cleanliness of the vessel's assigned areas, empty trash, and ensure orderliness.
Serve as Emergency Helmsman when required to support vessel operations.
Monitor vessel security during routine patrols and respond to security violations or suspicious behavior.
Conduct security sweeps between unloading and loading to ensure passenger access areas are clear.
Participate in emergency response activities, including assisting in fire, evacuation, and incident scenarios.
Demonstrate knowledge of seamanship, line handling, and marine terminology.
Operate hand tools and perform manual labor as needed to support vessel operations.
Obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and, within two years of hire, secure a Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as AB or QMED.
Requirements
Experience performing manual labor with various hand tools.
Experience in emergency response activities and safety protocols.
Ability to communicate effectively with passengers and co-workers.
Knowledge of seamanship, line handling, marine operations, and terminology.
Valid driver's license required.
Must obtain Merchant Mariner Credential (AB or QMED endorsement) within two years of hire.
