Job Description
The Senior Planner roleprovides a variety of complex planning functions and are considered subject matter experts with duties that include but are not limited to the management of long-range citywide, neighborhood, and corridor planning projects, lead case management for rezoning, and annexation cases, with an eye on business process improvement projects, statistics, and analytics. Senior Planners also participate in and manage public engagement efforts, handling multiple projects simultaneously. Additionally, Senior Planners review and validate data, drafts reports and summaries of projects for the department and act as a department liaison to other City and public offices.
Duties and Responsibilities

Support the development of long-range and strategic planning
Provide planning and analytical support to annexation and rezoning programs, including management of caseload
Prepare and present planning and development-related reports and technical program information to City Council, Boards, Commissions, and/or internal and external stakeholders and groups; provide technical consultation and serves as a liaison by providing information and responding to requests
Represents the department in project review meetings and calls and facilitates communications and project work with internal and external stakeholders, providing updates and recommendations to department leadership
Coordinate, attend and facilitate meetings; prepare agendas and technical materials; review activity status, timelines and resource allocation; monitor and evaluate consultant work; prioritize and schedule work and activities
Presents planning and development-related reports and technical program information to City Council, Boards, Commissions, and/or internal and external stakeholders and groups
Designs and implements community engagement plans, surveys, public meetings, and other initiatives in support of planning projects. Identifies, develops, implements, and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support, and promote effective, comprehensive, and meaningful citizen engagement
Oversees and supports the division's projects, including acting as project manager, determining scope of work, guiding RFP/RFQ development and process, and facilitates project progress from inception to closeout
Leads and coordinates individual projects; assigns and prioritizes tasks; guides employees to instruct or advise on tasks or assignments
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field and 3 to 5 years' professional planning experience in an area relevant to the department to which assigned
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licenses or Certifications:
American Institute of Certified Planners Certification
