Description
This is a non-exempt, part-time position with the Public Works Department located in Carson City, Nevada. This is a part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 hours per fiscal year, July 1 thru June 30; approximately 20 hours per week - schedule to be determined.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties related to the Water and Wastewater Utilities Facility grounds maintenance.

Mows, trims, edges and fertilizes landscaped areas.
Installs, repairs and maintains irrigation systems.
Performs snow removal activities as required in the area of the treatment plant and facilities.
Cleans equipment by using high-pressure water sprayers and associated cleaners.
Uses common hand and power tools in the course of work.
Performs basic facility and grounds maintenance in the area of the treatment plant and facilities, which includes weeding, removing trash, cleaning buildings, and painting buildings and equipment.
Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work; drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Education and Experience:
Equivalent to a High School education or GED
OSHA 10 within 30 days of hire
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• Nevada Driver's License.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.

Strength and mobility to work in a typical field or shop maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. Work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions and in extreme temperatures. Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous fumes, solvents and liquids.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
Employees shall be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.
New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation and a drug screen at a cost to the employee. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug/alcohol screen.

Part-time employees are limited to working no more than 1,039 hours in any fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. Part-time employees are not eligible to receive paid leave (including pay for not working on holidays), PERS retirement, or medical/dental/vision/life insurance. Nevada does not have a state income tax. Part-time employees do not contribute to social security; however, they must contribute 7.5% of their gross pay into a FICA Alternative Plan and are also responsible for paying the 1.45% Medicare tax. Part-time employees are covered under the City's worker's compensation program.
