Description
The purpose of this position is to organize and supervise community and student recreation activities and/or athletics programs, providing a safe recreational environment for the assigned community programs, youth activities and/or special events provided by the County. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Coordinate the recruitment and onboarding process for contracted referees and umpires to support youth and adult sports leagues.
Serve as the primary point of contact for officials regarding league schedules, rules, and administrative procedures.
Manage game assignments and scheduling logistics for contracted officials across all league sports and divisions.
Facilitate access to training resources and rule updates, and encourage officials to maintain appropriate certifications.
Maintain positive, professional relationships with contracted officials, providing clarity around expectations and game-day logistics.
Serve as an on-site liaison during games to help address logistical issues, game-day questions, or conflicts if they arise.
Collect, verify, and submit accurate officiating records (e.g., who officiated which games) to support timely and correct payment processing.
Monitor general performance trends and escalate recurring concerns to Recreation leadership for review or future planning.
Maintain a list of available, active officials, ensuring sufficient coverage for each sport season or tournament.
Assist with the development of league policies and communication protocols to promote fairness, sportsmanship, and safety.
Availability required during evenings and weekends, in alignment with league operations.
General knowledge of rules for multiple sports (e.g., basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, flag football) is strongly preferred.
Examples of Duties

Plans, organizes, and supervises various community activities, programs and special events.
Confirms participant attendance in the various programs.
Supervises participants on sports and recreational facilities or in classroom/study activities; conducts and records various recreation activities.
Conducts various fiscal/ cashiering tasks, e.g., receives fees and payments for program participation or reservation of facilities; logs payments; generates appropriate receipts.
Monitors assigned facilities and ensures the safety, maintenance and cleanliness of recreational equipment and teaching materials.
Reports any repair or maintenance issues to the appropriate management, e.g. leaks, damaged equipment or facilities, dangerous hazards.
Receives and responds to requests, complaints, concerns, and general inquiries from the public and patrons; provides resolution within prescribed area of responsibility.
Prepares various financial, registration and attendance reports; memos and correspondence.
Performs both routine and non-routine administrative duties, as dictated by the nature of the task, e.g., data entry, records maintenance, filing, basic calculations, reports.
Performs routine patrols of facility providing a safe environment, to detour depreciative behavior and enforce facility rules.
Ability to work irregular schedules to include late hours and weekends when necessary to include special event set-up, attendance, and break down.
Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
