Under direct supervision, performs a variety of general maintenance duties in support of the upkeep of Ramona Community Park under the supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor; performs assigned maintenance and repair work and may assist in temporary help in learning to perform assigned maintenance and repair tasks. Time frame of shifts will be based on the events scheduled at the Ramona Community Park. Open availability is preferred with evening and weekend shifts to be expected. Not all duties below may be assigned at one time.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

(Duties include but are not limited to the following):

Assists the District in unlocking and locking the Ramona Community Park grounds, restrooms, senior center, and the outdoor community center

Performs light custodial cleanup after events including; ensuring floors are clean, dry and debris free, and is performing general cleanup/wiping down of tables, chairs, countertops and appliances

Cleans restrooms; replenishes paper dispensers and other supplies as needed

Ensures bathroom floors are debris free and dry

Polices and picks up paper, trash, and other refuse and removes from grounds/park sites

Ensures all trash receptacles around the park and in park facilities are emptied and relined

Performs general maintenance work on buildings, structures, and playground equipment in parks and landscaped areas

Weeds grounds and other landscaped areas

Trims, prunes, and maintains trees and shrubs; removes dead or diseased limbs and branches using hand saws, power saws, and other trimming devices

Assists in graffiti removal on equipment, buildings and other structures

Operates hand and power tools and equipment including power mowers, edgers, trimmers, blowers, chain saws, hedgers, and other grounds maintenance tools

Tactfully responds to questions and comments from the public or conveys information as appropriate

Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required

Has awareness of the user groups calendar and can track that the correct groups are in their allocated field/time

Has awareness about the lights in the park and making sure they are not on if no one is using the fields

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge of:

Common gardening methods, tools, supplies

Safe motor vehicle and traffic laws

Safe work practices.

Computer terminal operating techniques and word processing methods.

Record keeping procedures.

Basic mathematics.

Proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to:

Learn a variety of park and landscape maintenance work assignments

Learn the safe and proper use of park maintenance tools and equipment

Effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms by using phone, text or e-mail communications

Reports important information pertaining to the Ramona Community Park, its facilities and its users to their supervisor and to the Park and Facilities Administrator

Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties

Work effectively as a crew member

Perform basic arithmetical calculations

Complete log books

Work safely

Perform physical tasks involving frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of weights up to 50 pounds as determined by a pre-employment physical

Drive an automobile

Climb ladders to prune trees

Work at various heights on appropriate equipment to string lights, banners, change light bulbs, etc.

Supplemental information

Experience:

Any combination of training or experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:A minimum of one year of responsible grounds maintenance experience requiring accuracy and attention to detail is qualifying.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid California driver's license, Class C, with ability to maintain insurability under the District's insurance carrier.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects such as cement and fertilizer bags. Ability to walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods of time. Ability to climb ladders. Dig ditches and post holes. Willing to work evenings and weekends.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
