Alexander Central High School

10-month Full-time position with benefits

General Statement of Job

This position involves teaching various art courses, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art, while fostering an appreciation for the arts in a supportive classroom environment. Ideal candidate will be passionate, creative and dedicated with a strong background in visual arts, a love for teaching, and the ability to inspire students to explore and express their creativity.

Required education/experience

Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field (Master's degree preferred).

Valid teaching certification/licensure for secondary art education or willingness to obtain certification/licensure.

Experience teaching high school students in a classroom setting preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Develop and implement an engaging art curriculum that meets state standards; school district goals; and encourages creativity and artistic growth.

Promotes a classroom/art studio environment that is organized, safe, and inclusive.

Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.

Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.

Guide students in the creation of artwork for school exhibitions, competitions, and community events.

Teach a range of visual arts courses (e.g., Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Digital Art, AP Studio Art) to students in grades 9-12.

Assess and document student progress; provide feedback and support for artistic development.

Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Order and manage art supplies and maintain classroom resources.

Stay current with best practices in art education and participate in professional development opportunities.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and promote effective participation in all activities.

Collaborate with fellow educators, administrators, and parents to support student learning.

Communicates effectively with parents through a variety of means and encourages parental involvement in students' education.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems.

Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.

Additional duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.

Essential knowledge and abilities

Passion for the arts and commitment to student growth and learning.

Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules.

Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Must have the ability to be physically active for long periods of time, including the ability to lift and carry objects, reach, and bend as needed in order to assist students with classroom activities.

Essential vision and hearing skills are necessary to effectively interact with students and observe the environment.

Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc.

Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
