Job Title: Chipper/Grinder - Marine Industry

NSC Staffing is seeking a skilled Chipper/Grinder to support marine ship repair and construction projects. This role requires hands-on experience working in challenging shipyard environments and preparing welded surfaces for various inspections. Ideal candidates will have experience operating grinders and carbon arc tools to support structural and piping operations aboard commercial vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate hand and power tools, including surface and angle grinders, to prep burned steel for welding and inspection.

Perform carbon arc gouging and grinding operations on shipboard structures and components.

Prepare surfaces for visual (VT), radiographic (RT), magnetic particle (MT), penetrant (PT), and ultrasonic (UT) testing.

Maintain cleanliness and integrity of weld joints in accordance with inspection standards.

Work safely and effectively in confined spaces, heights, and marine environments including subassemblies and staging.

Act as a qualified fire watch during hot work operations.

Follow OSHA safety regulations and shipyard-specific requirements.

Coordinate with supervisors and other craft professionals to ensure accurate and timely completion of work orders.

Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year of experience in the marine or shipyard industry as a Chipper/Grinder.

Proficient in using surface and angle grinders and carbon arc tools.

Experience preparing surfaces for weld inspections (RT, VT, MT, PT, UT).

Qualified Fire Watch certification required.

Physically able to work in demanding shipboard environments, including confined spaces and elevated work areas.

Familiar with OSHA standards applicable to shipbuilding and marine repair.
