Description

Reporting to the Director of the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute, the Senior Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in carrying out classroom responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provides a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children.

Provides a welcoming environment for parents and families.

Follows the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom.

Assists in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.

Carries out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University.

Fulfills the role of the classroom teacher in his/her absence.

Demonstrates understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs and interests; respect for a child's family and culture; and commitment of continued professional development.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.

1-2 years of related experience working with young children in a childcare setting.

Understands and respects children and their developmental needs and interests.

Has respect for all families and cultures.

Holds a commitment to continued professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred.

Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) Accredited childcare center a plus.

Demonstrates knowledge of the NAEC Accreditation Standards, NAEYC Accreditation process and Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum.

Work experience with infants and toddlers.

Salary/Salary Range

$31,530

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
