The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), Facilities Management Unit is currently seeking a maintenance technician. The technician will supervise and assist inmate labor performance of maintenance, grounds, custodial and other duties to support the operation of the unit.
You will perform the following activities:
Supervise and assist inmate staff in performing general maintenance and custodial duties.
Conduct weekly safety meetings and training with assigned inmate staff.
Perform accurate inmate count throughout the day.
Assist in the development of preventive maintenance programs for existing and newly purchased equipment. Equipment includes, but is not limited to maintenance and custodial equipment.
Drives van to transport inmates as needed.
Maintains accurate vehicle logs and ensure that all traffic laws are obeyed.
Performs vehicle inspections and takes appropriate actions to ensure assigned vehicles are operable and safe.
Perform some duties on weekends that can't be done during the week.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum requirements:
High school diploma and at least one year of relevant experience directly related to the area of employment.

Considerable knowledge in the use of various trades and craft tools and equipment.
Must be able to handle and respond to emergency situations.
Must possess the knowledge and skills to perform protection and security practices.
Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. for prolonged distances (at least 50 feet).
Must be able to walk (300 yards) and stand for long periods of time (2 1/2 hours), climb steps, stairs, and incline ADA ramps.
Must be able to endure adverse weather conditions from site to site.
May need to work on a weekend if work needs to be performed that cannot be done during working hours.
