Automation Technician
Location: Plainfield
Department: National Operations / Maintenance
Reports To: Automation or Maintenance Manager
Job Type: Full Time (7am-3:30pm)
Pay Rate: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour, (Depending on experience)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to support our production operations by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated systems and machinery. This role plays a key part in minimizing downtime, improving system reliability, and ensuring the overall efficiency of automated processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, robotics, and a proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain automated equipment including PLCs, robots, and control systems.
Diagnose issues and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control components.
Perform preventive maintenance and system calibrations.
Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
Troubleshoot and program PLCs and VFDs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.).
Collaborate with engineering, production, and external vendors.
Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation (LOTO, backups, checklists).
Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to industrial safety protocols.
Provide input on system improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's in Engineering, Robotics, or related field preferred.
Proven experience in automation systems, including robotic troubleshooting, VFDs, and industrial safety circuits.
Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
Proficiency with PLC programming, diagnostics, and repair.
Ability to analyze technical problems and implement effective solutions.
