Job Summary:
Reporting to the Shelter Director, it is the responsibility of the maintenance specialist to ensure indoor and outdoor space of the shelter is clean and functional, and free of safety hazards.
Reports to: Shelter Director
FLSA Category: Non-exempt, Full Time
Compensation: $19 - $22 Per Hour
Responsibilities:
Full Maintenance of the shelter facility
Ability to troubleshoot basic plumbing and electrical concerns and address as needed
Yard and grounds work as assigned, including mowing, trimming, raking, cleanup, weeding, mulching and pruning
Snow removal; including snow blowing, shoveling, and salting, as needed
Cleaning and basic janitorial duties
Assist with room turnovers as needed
Complete physical labor tasks to carry out the work plan and comply with all safety protocols
Participate in the paid on-call rotation (available after 6 months of employment)
Attend staff meetings and trainings as needed.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
High School or GED equivalent. Plumbing or Electrical license or 2 years' experience preferred.
OSHA Training Certified or willing to become certified.
Able to demonstrate good judgement when utilizing tools including but not limited to, snow blowers, leaf blowers etc.
Prior experience utilizing heavy duty floor cleaning equipment, such as carpet extraction and floor buffing.
Ability to participate in on-call rotation (on-call provides additional pay).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted.
Frequent bending, pushing, lifting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders and stairs.
Manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity required.
Noise level may be loud at times.
Ability to read and follow instructions, while utilizing critical thinking.

Driving required - Clean driving record with NYS Driving abstract and defensive driving certificate must be furnished within 30 days of employment.
