VGC Group are supporting a key client, a leading contractor active across several sectors within UK construction and infrastructure, as they look for a Senior Estimator to work on major Overhead Line (OHL) and Substation projects throughout the UK.

The Role

As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for all aspects of pricing across civil engineering and M&E elements for the design and delivery of major energy infrastructure assets. Experience in the energy sector, particularly substations, is required, with knowledge of overhead lines and underground cabling highly desirable. This role is offered as a hybrid opportunity, however the right person would need to be able to travel to, and work from, an office in Glasgow 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyse works information

Carry out quantity take-offs and develop activity schedules

Manage subcontract enquiries and evaluate quotations

Pricing of civils works

Contribute to and develop pricing strategies

Present strategies to senior leadership and ensure governance is maintained

Build and maintain strong client relationships

Support the central team with benchmarking and cost data development

The Candidate

Experienced estimator with a track record of pricing projects valued at over £10 million

Strong knowledge of energy-related infrastructure, ideally including substations, overhead lines, and cabling

Skilled in quantity take-offs and proficient with estimating software (e.g., Conquest)

Competent in creating reports in Excel

Familiar with cost planning processes

Solid understanding of construction technology and modern techniques

Minimum HNC qualification or equivalent
