About the role

Engineering Technical Lead

As the Engineering Technical Lead you are responsible for ensuring compliance of engineering design processes against standards and industry best practice for C&I Energy Solutions projects (e.g. Solar PV, Batteries, EV charging, among others). The role is also responsible for technical product governance and approvals for new and emerging products. Additionally, this role facilitates technical education across the wider Energy Solutions team by providing training and insights about products, standards and regularity changes & impacts to the business unit.

About the role:

Governance & Standards: Implement and maintain governance across products, processes, and standards within Energy Solutions. Ensure engineering practices align with Australian Standards and act as a subject matter expert for interpretation and clarification.

Technical Leadership: Maintain a central repository of embedded generation connection standards. Evaluate and approve technical products and represent Energy Solutions in AGL’s technical standards committee and regulatory working groups.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with DNSPs to stay informed on evolving standards. Present at contractor forums and roadshows to educate and engage the installation contractor network.

Industry Representation: Advocate for C&I energy solution consumers on industry panels and working groups. Monitor market, industry, and consumer trends to inform team strategy.

Safety & Compliance: Champion safety in design engineering. Ensure contractor engagement aligns with AGL’s management framework. Investigate incidents and near misses per AGL procedures and drive proactive HSE activities including audits and safety conversations.

Continuous Improvement: Support the HSE function in delivering initiatives that enhance safety outcomes. Ensure timely closure of corrective actions from investigations and HSE activities.

About you:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and be working towards Chartership with Engineers Australia (or equivalent in other countries)

Solar Accreditation Australia Grid Connect PV Design Accreditation (and preferably battery design accreditation)

Tenured experience within the energy industry, including experience in either design, construction, standards, or any other technical role

Experience working in cross disciplinary teams

Experience influencing cross disciplinary teams using technical knowledge

Experience presenting and facilitating training

Well developed, detail orientated organization skills

Good interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills

Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
