JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Production Operator ensures the proper running, cleaning, and maintenance of production equipment for the safe manufacture of powder coatings at the Reading/Warsaw sites. Operators may be assigned to Grinding, Weigh Up, or Extrusion production areas. The role focuses on meeting production targets, maintaining quality standards, and supporting health, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Take ownership of production assets and operate them safely according to procedures, guidelines, and industry best practices
Perform daily production, preventative maintenance, process data collection, and administrative tasks
Report safety, quality, or production process issues to Team Leader or Shift Supervisor
Ensure all production targets are met while maintaining quality standards
Attend and contribute to team and safety meetings
Participate in the investigation of HSE or quality issues
Engage in Continuous Improvement programs for HSE, Quality, ALPS, or other assigned initiatives
Adhere to safety principles and intervene to stop work if unsafe conditions or behavior are observed
Promote compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations
Perform other duties as required for operational success
WEIGH UP OPERATORS:
Wash totes and charge product
Weigh up critical raw materials
Conduct pre-mix sampling in the sample room
Extrude, grind, sieve samples, and obtain QC analysis
Stage raw materials for batches per batch tickets
Record production and QC data
Transport totes to blender/blend/sample area
EXTRUDER OPERATORS:
Demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude
Determine screw profile for product based on batch ticket or run history
Verify machine cleanliness before running product
Wash and clean totes
Transport QC-approved material to upper level mezzanine
Extrude product and adjust feed rate according to specifications
Transport totes to Post-Add station if necessary
Transport extruded product to ICM staging area
ICM OPERATORS:
Grind totes in sequence to minimize contamination
Verify machine cleanliness prior to running product by interacting with previous shift operator
Transport approved flake, run contamination and sieve checks, and pull QC samples
Make adjustments and re-clean machines if contamination occurs
Perform particle size analysis and adjust as necessary
Pull samples for QC as required
Manually pack off mills (Reading site)
LEVEL OF AUTONOMY:
Run assigned equipment per work order instructions
Make corrections to running conditions to bring product within specifications independently
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma (preferred)
Ability to lift 55 lbs
Ability to read and comprehend instructions
Trainable to safely operate a forklift following all operating instructions
Ability to maneuver large vessels and totes using a hand truck
Ability to measure and weigh accurately
Effective interpersonal skills
Committed to personal and site safety
Ability to climb stairs wearing steel-toed footwear
Ability to don hardhat, respirator, and other PPE as required
Ability to stand and walk for entire shift
CERTIFICATIONS:
Forklift certification (if applicable)
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma (required)
Additional technical or vocational training (preferred)
